Intuition – What is It?

Intuition - What Is It?

It seems that everyone is talking about intuition these days, but few seem to understand it.  We hear the phrase “That’s counter-intuitive”.  What does that mean?

Just what is intuition?  Many people think of intuition as just hunches or strong feelings that we should or should not do something, but intuition can be so much more than that.  Intuition is a human potential.  We all experience it to some degree, but some of us have developed our ability to access intuitive knowledge on an on-going basis.

We are all born with two ways of obtaining knowledge.  They are known as intellectual and intuitive.  They are both potential and must be developed. We talk about them in terms of left brain and right brain abilities.  Left brain abilities are reason and logic – linear thinking – memory – beliefs and verbal communication.  This is how we communicate with each other.  Right brain abilities are intuition, imagination, innovation, creativity, compassion, the ability to see wholeness, the big picture or how all the parts fit together.

In the past we have not recognized we have intuitive – right brain – abilities.  We have only developed our left-brain abilities.  Our educational system is designed to develop our left-brain abilities through teaching and learning.  We learn what someone already knows.  In the past we have believed that was all we had.

Yet, everything new has always come to someone intuitively – a right brain ability.

The intellect holds our beliefs – left brain, but our beliefs are creative – right brain.  We think our beliefs are true, but are they?  True or not they are creating our experiences and our world.

In the past, we have not understood we all have right brain abilities, and we can develop them. Two things block our ability to access these right brain abilities – stress and untrue beliefs

Our right brain abilities are developed in a totally different way from how we develop left-brain abilities.  We cannot teach or learn intuition.  It is a discovery process.  We must discover our right brain abilities within ourselves.

What we need most in the world now are people with well-developed right brain abilities.  We have discovered that many of our previously held beliefs are not true.  This has created a world that is clearly unsustainable, and undesirable.  As Bill Gates recently confirmed, new ways of seeing and accomplishing is needed in almost every area of our lives.

I have worked with many entrepreneurs and corporate decision makers who are intuitive.  However, they still do not understand intuition and are unaware of how to develop and use their intuition to make the contributions that they can make.

Unlimited Futures has a long history of working with intuition.  In fact, it is the 5th step of the Seven Steps in The Creative Process.  Through our many programs and resources, you will repeatedly find that leveraging intuition has played a “key role” in our many success stories.  As we move through the coming year, we expect to provide continuous expansion and leveraging of intuitive abilities with our alumni and our students.  Please join us on this exciting journey.…discover what new possibilities you can create in your own world!
